| The Art Of Leadership project is a new concept for reflecting and learning. It has evolved through the collaboration of a group of people with many diverse talents. What they share is a curiosity about new ideas, a desire to be creative in their work and a commitment to being better tomorrow than they were today and helping other people to do the same. However none of this would have come about without one small company’s big interest in crossing borders in education, management and art - Noden AB is the node in the network, bringing in outstanding artists to use their talent in new arenas. The musician and composer Per Boysen recorded Dr. David Cowley’s spoken word performance completely a´capella, taking special care not to interfere with the speaker’s natural flow. The words were interpreted and set to music by Per. Then Samuel Poromaa added his interpretation and gave artistic expression to David's words and Per’s music by creating the video sequences. The story behind Art Of Leadership When we meet people in organisations and talk to them about their working lives, a common theme is that they feel they “do not have enough time”. Managers feel as if they are constantly on the go, taking part in meetings, making plans, working with colleagues, talking to customers or suppliers or running around and fire-fighting – and yet despite accomplishing many things they still feel unsatisfied. Many ask – am I doing the right thing – am I doing things right? Are we doing the right thing in this organisation? Am I doing the things needed to make it easier for the people around me perform at their best? Nodens job as consultants is often to help managers to “bring these questions to the surface”- and then work with them. How can you help people to develop and change? It always involves reflecting and learning. If you learn new things, you have to reflect on where you are now, where you want to be, how you might get there and what will help and hinder you along the way and then you have to make it happen- to take it “all the way”. Otherwise, it just stays in your head - as an intellectual idea with no practical benefit to any one else. With the Art of Leadership and the concept of “reflective learning” Noden have found an interesting and fun way of “bringing these questions to the surface”.
